I love how deadlock, sidings, binari morti are metaphors of the research: the more we are open to understand that we need to step back and change our direction, the more we can. From my point of view is the complementary approach to the serendipity: a dead end is a chance to change direction, still following the search for something we couldn't yet find, while a detour is more or less an act of finding before an actual search.
